Back Ribera de Arriba
It owes its name to the fact that it is literally a riverbank of the Nalón, and in its territory the two rivers of the central mining basins of Asturias merge: the Caudal gives body and soul to the Nalón in Ribera de Arriba, which perfectly combines the plain and the mountains, and this allows it to enjoy a benevolent microclimate and an important wealth of woodland with an abundance of oak and chestnut trees.
Near its capital, Soto Ribera, stands Güeñu/Bueño, which has a group of very well-preserved hórreos (raised granaries), making it one of the most important ethnographic sites in the Principality, hence the fact that it is home to the Hórreo Interpretation Centre.
This is Ribera de Arriba, affable, festive and guardian of traditions.
