In this rocky shelter, abundant lithic industry was discovered - stone tools made by prehistoric man - belonging to two species of human ancestors, the Neanderthals and the Cro-Magnons, as well as other archaeological remains, such as animal bones (rhinoceros, mammoth, bison, chamois, goat...).
On its walls are also some of the oldest artistic manifestations of mankind: a set of non-figurative engravings belonging to the Aurignacian period (± 30,000 BC).
The Cueva del Conde undoubtedly contains in its strata the greatest mystery of recent prehistoric research, the coexistence of the last two human species that struggled to adapt to the rigours of the European glacial climate: Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons.
