Description -

After passing through La Venta, Barbechu, La Torre, El Romeru, El Castro, Aveno, La Venta, Vega, El Rayu and El Rebollal, the SR-1 takes you to La Pola Siero. El Rayu boasts a long-standing pottery tradition dating from the early 18th century, although it has since been lost. In La Pola Siero, the route passes before the parish church. From La Pola head to El Berrón. Leaving here along Avenida de Los Campones and Avenida de Oviedo, the route leads to El Carbayal, Fonciello, Meres and Granda, passing between the parish church and cemetery in the last village. This area is close to industrial estates and is markedly semi-urban in character. El Llugarín marks the way until you come to the medieval bridge in Colloto, where the route goes along Camino Concejil Street to then join up with the N-634 and enter Oviedo through Cerdeño via Tenderina Alta and Tenderina Baja Streets. Continue on to Campo La Vega, Azcarraga Street, San Vicente, Corrada del Obispo, Tránsito de Santa Barbara and San Salvador Cathedral and its Holy Chamber, along with Santiago de Compostela, one of the most important places of pilgrimage during the Middle Ages after Jerusalem and Rome. The evolution of pilgrimages was instrumental in Oviedo's demographic and cultural enrichment and in expanding the services the city offered, as well as in its transformation from a royal and ecclesiastical city to a somewhat universal metropolis.
