Description -

Actually, this stretch of St James' Way would be incomplete without a visit to the village of Arbás in León, just bordering Asturias, and its magnificent Collegiate Church of Santa María ( 12-13 C.), a landmark on the road to the Cathedral of San Salvador and its Holy Chamber in Oviedo, which constituted a major attraction for the pilgrims who took the French Route through León. From Arbás, the trail heads uphill to La Gobia and Boquete de La Calera, then downhill via the La Casa Tibigracias riverbed to reach Samiguel del Río along a path running parallel to the railway line and then the cemetery and village of Payares. The trail continues along the road to Floracebos and, 1.5 km further on to the right of the Chapel of La Virgen de las Nieves, there is a path to La Romía Riba. The trail heads downhill from here to the village of Naveo via the hilltop where the Chapel of San Pedro is located. Then climb the western slope of Torones Heights where the trail flattens out until reaching the hamlet of La Muela to then continue down a steep slope to Fierros. The trail continues along the road to San Bartolo and then there is a steep climb up to Fresneo. Skirting the hills among chestnut and holly woods, you come to the Chapel of San Miguel. There is then a path in good condition down to Erías, where the "Camín de Los Moros" (Moors' Trail) leads to Campumanes. From there, the route runs along the AS-242, continuing on through La Vega'l Rei and La Vega'l Ciigu to La Pola, where there is a hostel for pilgrims.
