Description -

The last stretch of the Original Way of St James in Asturias starts in Grandas de Salime, following the route of the AS-28 road practically all the time, only veering off this road occasionally to follow lanes and paths, all of which are well signposted. The old pilgrim hospital-house is located at the entrance to the town of Grandas de Salime. A slope leads up from there to the Church of San Salvador, from where you take the path to Cereixeira. There is another path to the right leading to Malneira. You then pass through the village of Castro, where there is a privately-owned hostel. From one of the chapels in Castro, the trail leads to the Chapel of San Lázaro, a former pesthouse where travellers suffering from leprosy were welcomed, and from there to the village of Padraira. The trail continues on for another two kilometres, with the road on the left. After this stretch, follow the road again until reaching Penafonte. At the edge of the village, take the path to start the climb up to Alto del Acebo, always keeping the road on the left. As you climb you come to Bustelo del Camín, the last Asturian village before reaching El Acebo Pass, at 1,024 metres. At the end of the climb, the Way through Asturian lands finishes, as past this spot it enters the province of Lugo.
