Myths and customs of autumn magic

Santa Eulalia de Morcín Traditional Market or Mercau is held in October, in a natural setting of great beauty situated right in the Aramo Range: Santa Eulalia de Morcín Recreational Area. Among all the activities organized, the overall goal is to recall and recreate bygone countryside tasks, many of which were linked to this season (la seronda in Asturian) such as the pressing of apples to make cider (mayau), the roasting of chestnuts (amagüestu de castañes), the making of corn fritters (tortos) and walnut- or hazelnut-filled pastries (casadielles) and the like. This overall atmosphere of recreating rural traditions is usually enlivened with typical music and dances.
