Proaza Reminiscence and Autumn Menu Market
Proaza (Centre)
Traditional Market
Second fortnight in October
A reminiscence of folk customs
The Reminiscence and Autumn Menu Market, now over a decade old, is held in Proaza in October. Via the staging of a traditional-style market, this event aims to recover, maintain and transmit traditional know-how, arts and crafts and customs, at the same time as promoting tourism and popular culture. An average of around sixty artisans from Asturias, Galicia and León take part in the market, also giving live demonstrations in wood carving, basketry and clog-making. The fact that it is held in autumn, the season in which these markets are not as frequent, has allowed it to find its own niche in the festive calendar. The uniqueness of the date is reinforced by the intrinsic attraction of the so-called "Bear Valleys" as a leisure and free-time area. The Reminiscence Market is closely linked to the Autumn Gastro Events, which counts on the collaboration of Proaza and Santo Adriano Tourism Association (ASTURPROC), aimed at promoting typical Asturian produce and dishes such as chestnut stew, wild boar and apple compote. It therefore becomes a promotional activity of the valley itself, constituting a complementary action to the other attractions that the area has to offer as a whole in terms of its leisure and tourism infrastructure and facilities.
