It is the main feature of the itinerary "The Lords of the Palace Houses", integrating resources linked to the systems of land ownership, stately architecture or the lineages that have bequeathed their palatial buildings.
There are two other gates to the Navia Historical Park:
- The First Settlers, in Grandas de Salime
- Stories of the sea, in Puerto de Vega
For more than 1,500 years, castles, palaces, manor houses, convents and bishoprics have dominated life and the territory. The legacy of a turbulent Middle Ages is still recognisable in the towers, walls and gates of the magnificent Palace Houses that dot the Navia Historical Park.
In the shadow of these manor houses, a way of life based on self-sufficiency developed, a self-sufficient world that has bequeathed us a rich architectural, ethnographic and folkloric heritage.
The landscape was profoundly transformed, the forests were ploughed up in search of new farmland. From simple products and the exploitation of livestock and game, a rich traditional gastronomy emerged that still survives today.
