Castropol is bathed in the Eo estuary, a Nature Reserve that gives this coastal council both a fluvial and marine feel. The estuary is the perfect setting for peaceful boat trips where you can observe the flora and fauna and the peaceful life of an estuary where there is a little bit of everything: oyster farming - whose showy rafts in the middle of the estuary can be visited by tourists -, fishing, canoeing or kayaking, wind-surfing, paddle-surfing, sailing, bird watching and a long etcetera... in short, an oasis of tranquillity and unequalled leisure, which also has as its witness the port of Figueras, a welcoming place with a marina and shipyard, as well as excellent seafood cuisine. Another of the council's natural beauties is its highlands, with the Obanza Valley and theCioyo waterfall standing out.
The capital of the council, the town of Castropol, also has a historic centre of cultural interest, where you can see outstanding examples of palace-houses and Indian architecture. On Corpus Christi days, the town is covered in floral art in the form of a carpet, giving rise to one of the most original and spectacular celebrations in Asturias.
