Laviana

Laviana has the honour of having one of the most sung popular 'hymns' after the Asturias Patria Querida as is the famous 'Chalaneru', which also explicitly alludes to that part of the life of the council deeply linked to the river Nalón, which even today continues to be key in the daily life of Laviana, a territory where river fishing or hunting are two of the most practised sporting and tourist activities.

The Puente de la Chalana or Puente de Arco are two cultural and festive references around the river, and if we are talking about forests, in Laviana, the rutting of the deer is one of the most striking autumn spectacles.

In the list of its many illustrious people (Fray Ceferino, Maximiliano Arboleya, etc.), Armando Palacio Valdés takes the cake and the atmosphere of his famous novel 'La aldea perdida' is still recreated today in the settings and in the natural, utopian and romantic atmosphere which can be breathed in many corners of Laviana, and of course in his birth house in Entrialgo, today converted into a museum and interpretation centre. There are also many mountains in Laviana, the most popular being Peña Mea, and amongst the spectacular valleys and mountains there are villages as characteristic as Villoria or El Condao. The capital, La Pola Llaviana/Polade Laviana, has been witness to the high commitment to history of its inhabitants and an urban route through it reveals jewels such as the parish church, a magnificent example of neo-industrial Gothic, or the Town Hall.
