The Jira in Asturias is always a countryside meal and directly connects with our tradition of combining gastronomy, nature, and celebration. The Jira to Trasona Reservoir in the municipality of Corvera de Asturias is very special for several reasons. The first one is because it is linked to May 1st, Labor Day, and that's how it originated. Its birth is connected to the large contingent of workers who, since the 1950s, inhabited the area working in the steel industry. And it has been perpetuated ever since.
