It is a specimen of Quercus Robur that is not very tall, about 8 m., although it stands out for the size of its trunk, which reaches 10 metres in diameter. The age of this oak, in addition to the diameter of its trunk, is corroborated by historical data which, according to the Asturian Encyclopaedia, are cited in documents prior to the discovery of America.
They were very common in Asturias, but the great majority were felled because of the high quality and hardness of their wood, which was widely used for the construction of granaries and granaries, and also as beams in the construction of churches and palaces.
