- Title El Franco Western Asturias
- Open to the public Open to the public: All year round
Developed over Lower Cambrian marbles, this is a karstic area that gives rise to a semi-enclosed valley whose waters flow into the river Mazo. Calcareous pinnacles, escarpments and caves emerge on a humid meadow floor. On the rocky outcrops grow forests of oak, laurel and strawberry trees.
The abundant and dense vegetation means that it is barely visible from the outside. Its relief is due to the combined action of natural phenomena and above all to a strong mining activity in Roman times, aimed at obtaining gold.
