The Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture is a non-profit organisation that manages the project for the reintroduction of the Bearded Vulture in the Picos de Europa, a species declared in danger of extinction in Spain, which disappeared from this territory in the 20th century.
It has recently launched an interpretative activity in the Picos de Europa National Park: a tour of the bearded vulture release area, interpreted by the FCQ's own technical staff, with whom we share a day of monitoring and field work, learning about the species, the techniques for monitoring specimens, and observing their flights in the wild.
The tour includes a stop at the necrophagous bird feeder at Mirador de la Reina, to learn about the ecology of the scavenger species and observe them in action.
This activity takes place every Friday between June and September, and lasts approximately four hours. Timetables and prices can be consulted at the 'Las Montañas del Quebrantahuesos' Centre, or by calling 985 844 293/ 687 080 374.
In addition, the 'Las Montañas del Quebrantahuesos' Centre, located in the town of Benia de Onis, also offers guided tours and other activities. These tours provide information about the nature of the Picos de Europa and the profound interactions that exist between these imposing mountains, the living beings that inhabit them and an emblematic species such as the bearded vulture, which today returns to inhabit them after its expulsion by mankind.
The activity lasts approximately 4 hours.
The languages in which the observation services are offered are Spanish and English.
