At the entrance to Avín, you will find this cave, with a 500-metre route in which you can learn about life in the glacial period in the Picos de Europa.
The Glacial Fauna Interpretation Centre and La Cuevona are located at the entrance to the village of Avín, and house several reproductions of mammoths, giant deer, woolly rhinoceros, etc., as well as the fossil remains of a Coleodonta discovered in the nearby cave of La Peruyal.
This cave was occupied during the Palaeolithic period and later, in the 18th and 19th centuries, it was used as a post stop, with the addition of an inn and a forge. Recently the forge building and the cave were remodelled to house this unique museum.
The village of Avín can be reached by the AS-114 road, and the cave is located in the village itself.
