El Fresnedal - Pradera de La Llama - Albergue de Fayacaba (Melendreros)

El Fresnedal - Melendreros 15,9

The stage starts in the village of Fresnedal, in the council of Piloña, located in the Sierra del Sellón mountain range, and crosses the council of Nava to continue westwards towards Los Melendreros, in the council of Bimenes.

From the signpost next to the washhouse in Fresnedal, and following the directional markings, the first section of the stage crosses the village and continues along a narrow dirt track that descends to the AS-254 road. It then turns right towards the village of Puente Miera and, after a few metres, turns left again, this time crossing two bridges very close to each other.

The route then climbs along the road parallel to the river La Muriosa, between pastures dotted with trees and riverside vegetation. In this section, the path crosses the river several times, passes by stone huts and crosses meadows and small copses of chestnut(Castanea sativa), holly(Ilex aquifolium) and oak(Quercus robur).

The track continues ascending until it reaches a crossroads. At this point there are caution signs, as the path becomes a mountain track. A few metres further on, the route enters the municipality of Nava, arriving at the Collado del Felguerón, from where we can enjoy the fantastic scenery.

Alternating between stretches of gravel and concrete (a surface that appears in curves or steep climbs), the path continues ascending through oak groves and areas of heathland. Once we reach the meadow of La Llama, the path starts to descend, and numerous stone huts dot this part of the route, to then ascend again to Les Praeres, a spot characterised by pastures where there are several livestock huts, and from where we can see the Sierra de Peñamayor, towards which the track heads slightly upwards.

Once in the foothills of Peñamayor, the route descends until it reaches the Fayacaba hostel, in the council of Bimenes. From the hostel, the route continues descending moderately along a concrete track until it reaches Los Melendreros, where the route ends. We will find the start-finish sign next to the Fuente de la Pipa, carved in stone, where we will also find tables and wooden benches to rest.
