Chanuces - Las Val.linas - San Pedro - La Fábrica - Bárzana

Chanuces - Bárzana 16

Starting from the rural centre of Llanuces, in the council of Quirós, the GR in this stage has two variants: a main route, which heads northwest, and an alternative route, which turns off to the southeast, and which connects with the end of stage 13.

The main route first heads north, approaching the Sierra del Aramo Protected Landscape, and then continues southwest towards the Las Ubiñas-La Mesa Natural Park, ending in the village of Bárzana, in the valley of the river Trubia.

The first section of the route begins next to the signpost at the start of the stage in Llanuces and ascends through the streets of the village, between houses and granaries, to continue along a narrow stone and earth path that climbs moderately until it joins a wider track.

The route continues moderately uphill along the track, sometimes steeply sloping, between meadows and areas of heathland until we reach Sabatin, where we turn left and head towards Cantu Les Quintes on the flat. From here, the route turns to the left and along a path that takes us near the Ermita del Alba where the descent along an asphalted track between meadows and stone huts increases, leaving the Pico Cuervo on the right, until we reach the rural village of Las Val.linas.

In the last part of the main route, the route crosses the village of Las Val.linas and passes over the rural village of Salcedo or La Villa, where we will find an information panel on the hermitage of the Virgen del Alba, as well as directional signs to turn off towards the recreational areas of El Quinte and Alba.

Afterwards, the path continues descending, between meadows and small copses of chestnut(Castanea sativa) and oak(Quercus robur) trees, towards Villar de Salcedo, where stage 14 coincides with the GR-207 path. A few metres further on, once we have passed the village of San Pedro, which we leave on the right, the route comes out onto the AS-229 road and continues to the left towards Bárzana.

Taking the first turning to the left, the route crosses the village of La Fábrica, parallel to the AS-229, which it joins again to the left. Passing through the village of San Salvador, we reach Bárzana, capital of the council of Quirós, where we will find the start-finish sign at the entrance to the village.

Alternative route 7,5

In this same stage, in addition to the main route described above, there is an alternative route, coinciding with the end of stage 13, which also starts in the village of Llanuces, leaving the church of Santa María (9th-15th centuries) and the Palace of the Miranda family to the right. This route climbs up the AS-230 road to Collau de La Cobertoria, where there is an information panel with the names of the peaks that can be seen from there. About 400 metres away, we can also visit the tomb necropolis of La Cobertoria.

Once past Collau de La Cobertoria, the route descends and enters the municipality of Lena. A few metres further on, the path leaves the AS-230 and turns off to the left along a narrow road, in the direction of Alto El Gamoniteiro. The road climbs moderately between meadows and small copses of leafy trees until it reaches Collá El Fresnu, where the route begins to descend until it meets the path already described which starts from Llanuces, corresponding to the main route. At this point of coincidence, the alternative route rejoins the main route.
