Albergue Fayacaba - Área recreativa de Xerrugües - Campa Fresnéu - Pando - Entrialgo

Melendreros - Entrialgo 15

The stage starts at Los Melendreros, in the council of Bimenes, and descends in a south-westerly direction, close to the western face of the Sierra de Peñamayor, towards the council of Laviana, in the valley of the river Nalón. The first section of the stage ascends between pastures and huts, with the Peñamayor mountain range on the left, up to Campa Fresneo.

The first section of the route begins at the end of Los Melendreros, where the start-finish signpost is located, next to the Fuente de la Pipa. From here, it climbs between huts and pastures bordered by hazelnut trees(Corylus avellana), hawthorn trees(Crataegus monogyna) and birch trees(Betula pendula).

Afterwards, the route reaches the Fayacaba hostel, the crossing point with stage 8, which comes from the other side of the Sierra de Peñamayor. In this part of the route we will see the valley of the Rozaes river (council of Bimenes) on the right, with Los Melendreros on the right. Shortly after, the path goes around the recreational area of Xerrugües, passing through a copse of beech(Fagus sylvatica) and holly(Ilex aquifolium), and continues between meadows and huts until the Campa Fresneo.

Already in the council of Laviana, the last sector of the stage descends from Campa Fresneo to Entralgo, on the banks of the river Nalón. The first section of this sector descends along a dirt track, leaving the Sierra de Peñamayor and Campa Fresneo behind. The GR continues alternating stretches of concrete and dirt, descending steeply for a long way. The last metres of the route reach Pando and go down a small path to Puente de Arco. Special attention should be paid to the signposting in Pando.

You have to cross the "caleyas" between the houses of the village, always taking the steepest downhill path at the crossroads. You cross a magnificent chestnut grove along a cobbled concrete path.

At Puente de Arco, we will find a bridge over the river Nalón, which preserves the typical late medieval (13th-14th centuries) raised profile. The bridge gives way to the old Roman road that descended from Tarna following the valley to the centre of Asturias.

In its vicinity, there is a chapel where the town councillors of Laviana traditionally took possession of their posts.

After crossing the bridge, the path continues a few metres downstream of the river Nalón, until it reaches a road, where it continues to the left. Shortly after, we reach Entralgo, where we find the end of the stage signpost, as well as an information panel on the Protected Landscape of the Cuencas Mineras, both next to the road.
