Tuña - Ḷḷamas del Mouru - Bruelles - Tandes - Ounón

Tuña - Ounón 17,2

The GR begins in Tuña, known as the capital of the Cuarto de la Riera, an authentic centre of noble architecture belonging to families such as the Riego y Tineo, Rodríguez de Tuña, Flórez Valdés, Peláez de Arganza, Quiñones and García de la Sierra, among others. Since the Middle Ages, these families have built over the centuries a large number of palaces and mansions, which are gathered in this village, elected Exemplary Village of Asturias in the year 2000.

From Tuña we have two options, the first is to continue along the road to Ḷḷamas del Mouru, where we turn right onto a track that leads us to the top of the sierra.

Ḷḷamas del Mouru belongs to the parish of San Martín de la Sierra and is famous for its black pottery. The local pottery is located to the right of the chapel of the Virgen del Carmen.

In the centre of Ḷḷamas del Mouru we will also find the magnificent property of the Sierra family, with the Sierra Palace, built around a circular medieval tower. The building has a 17th century façade and its core is from the 16th century, to which is added the chapel, of great beauty. At the entrance are the coats of arms of the Sierra and Columbus families, descendants of the discoverer of America. The interior conserves historicist furnishings. The chapel has an independent entrance and communicates with the rooms of the house from the tribune. The Baroque altarpiece houses a Romanesque Virgin and Child.

Leaving Ḷḷamas del Mouru by road, the route turns to the right and climbs up a dirt track to El Mouru, from where there are fantastic panoramic views from Pico Cazarnoso (1,386 metres), in Cangas del Narcea, to Tineo.

From here, the track continues turning left and descending shortly afterwards, under a pine forest of radiata pine, towards Bruelles.

The last kilometres of the stage leave Bruelles and leave the road turning right, towards a dirt track that passes by the chapel and recreational area of Santarbás. Shortly after, the route leaves the road and turns left towards San Martín (Samartín), from where a dirt track leads to Tandes. From this village, the road leads to Onón, the end of the stage.

The second and most recommended option is to leave Tuña, from where we head towards the district of La Veiga, from where we have a beautiful view of the village. We continue along a path that leads us next to the washing place where we turn left and ascend between trees until we reach the watershed where it turns again and enters the bottom of the valley in search of the Areñas stream. We cross it and ascend until we reach a track that comes from the road from Tuña to Ḷḷamas del Mouru. Here we continue straight on along a path that takes us to Silva or along the track on the right that leads us to the same place.

From Silva we continue along the track until we find a crossroads, where we continue on the right that ascends and from where we have an excellent view of Tineo and its mountain range. We reach a point where this alternative joins the one coming from Ḷḷamas del Mouru.
