Water is the source of life, all species live from it and many live in it; but, in addition, when it falls from above, it is beauty, like this A Seimeira route.
On this route, not only water is beauty, but also the path itself at the foot of the river, as well as the magic of the abandoned village of A Ancadeira, through which we cross, or the valley of Desterrado, with a beautiful history of other times that can be read in situ.
In addition to enjoying the forest, those who are more inclined to walk can also go to Busqueimado to enjoy a sandwich sitting at the foot of the two enormous yew trees that flank its chapel.
And, of course, the final spectacle, A Seimeira (waterfall), where the water cascades over the hard rock from a height of 20 or 30 metres.
Área recreativa de Pumares – Pumares - A Ancadeira - Valle del Desterrado – Cascada (A Seimeira) – Busqueimado
Pumares - A Seimeira 8,6
This magnificent route starts in the recreational area of Pumares, between the villages of Santalla and Pumares. An ascending path in a north-westerly direction takes us to A Seimeira (the waterfall), where just before arriving, 500 metres further on, we can also take another route in an ascending direction to see the village of Pumares.
In the first 200 metres of the route, we will cross the village of Pumares, to follow the course of the river Agüeira in the opposite direction. The village is a typical example of traditional Oscos architecture, where there used to be a lot of ironworks activity and which nowadays is mainly dedicated to rural tourism.
At the kilometre and a half mark, we come to a fork in the road, where we should take the path on the right. About 300 metres further on, we will reach the abandoned village of Ancadeira, of which only the walls remain, reconquered by the vegetation.
At this point we take the path that opens up on our right, to go to Seimeira, passing through the Desterrado valley. When we have walked 2.80 kilometres, we reach the Desterrado valley. A few metres further on we will find a path that turns off to the right in the direction of A Seimeira; from here it is about 500 metres to the waterfall. Once at the waterfall, there are two options: either return to Pumares following the same route or visit the village of Busqueimado.
If we choose to go to Busqueimado, at kilometre 3.10 we turn right and cross the river over a bridge. A kilometre further on, after a steep climb, we reach the village of Busqueimado. We must stop at the local chapel, which has two impressive yew trees planted around it.
We start the return journey along the same path, this time descending (as we go down the same path we have climbed) and we reach the abandoned village of A Ancadeira once again. All that remains is to retrace the last stretch parallel to the river Agüeira to return to the beautiful village of Pumares, where this route ends.
