San Esteban - Playa de Aguilar

San Esteban - Aguilar Beach 6,3

This route begins at the mouth of the river Nalón, in other words, at the port of San Esteban, where there is a signpost indicating the start of the Senda Costera de Muros de Nalón (Coastal Path of Muros de Nalón).

After walking the first 1.7 kilometres, we find ourselves at the most difficult point, as we have to climb some 420 steps to reach the viewpoint and the hermitage, but it is well worth the effort.

At the top, at approximately 2.1 kilometres, there is a recreational area and, next to it, the white hermitage of Espíritu Santo, as well as the first of the viewpoints, with the same name as the hermitage.

From this point we have beautiful views of the cliffs, with the beach of Los Quebrantos and the island of Deva to the right and Cape Vidio to the left. Some 400 metres further on, the path becomes surrounded by chestnut and eucalyptus woods; it is well signposted and leads to the different viewpoints.

Halfway along the route, kilometre 3, the path skirts the Focarón beach and reaches the L'Atalaya viewpoint. After another kilometre and a half, the path skirts the Cazonera beach and reaches the Los Glayos viewpoint. This is close to the beach of Las Llanas.

Almost at the end of the route, at the top of Las Llanas, kilometre 5.3, we can observe the beautiful views of the coast. A few metres further down, we reach the beach of Xilo or Veneiro, at kilometre 6, and right next to it, the beach of Aguilar, the end of our route.
