Tuñón - Huerta Cave 18

This route starts at the Tuñón rest area; at first it runs along the left bank of the river Trubia, but later it turns to the right, advancing between the river and the road.

After the first 3.5 kilometres of the route, we reach Villanueva, where the path once again runs along the left bank of the river. We must cross the medieval stone bridge and, further on, cross a new bridge, leaving the river and the road to the left.

A kilometre and a half further on, we find ourselves in Buyera, where there is a recreational area and from where we can access the famous bear enclosure where the bears "Paca" and "Molina" can be found. This is an area of woodland of more than four hectares, totally fenced in, which allows them to live in semi-freedom.

At kilometre 6 of the route, we are already in Proaza; the path passes next to a hydroelectric power station among the trees and crosses the Peñas Juntas gorge. After 4.5 kilometres more from the previous point, a little before reaching Caranga Baxu/Caranga de Abajo, the two existing sections of the Senda del Oso fork, but both start from the same place. In this case, we take the branch to the right.

At kilometre 15, the path enters the Valdecerezales gorge, less well known than the famous Peñas Juntas, but of equal beauty. Five and a half kilometres further on, we reach Entragu/Entrago, where there is a recreational area where we can rest and recover our strength.

A few metres further on, we pass through the village of Samartín/San Martín.

After walking some 29 kilometres from the start of the route, we reach Cueva Huerta, the end point of our route.
