Safe tourism

As a general rule…

  • Keep your belongings in sight at all times.
  • Safeguard your purse or wallet on public transport and in crowds (street markets, shows, etc.).
  • Keep an eye on your photo or video camera in recreational areas.
  • When you go to the beach or pool, take only the essentials.
  • If you use a vehicle, do not leave valuable or eye-catching objects in sight.
  • As far as possible, try not to walk around empty streets or poorly-lit areas.
  • Beware of suspicious "help" (someone telling you that you have stains on your clothing, damage to your vehicle, etc.).
These are usually tricks to rob you.
  • Do not get involved in gambling or accept "bargains" on the street. They are sure to be a ruse or a scam.

At the hotel or apartment...

  • Do not leave keys, money or valuables in your room. Use safe deposit boxes.
  • In communal areas (reception, restaurants, pool), keep an eye on your luggage and personal items (bags, cameras, etc.).
