Discover one of the most beautiful and touristy fishing villages in western Asturias, with whaling origins.
Tapia, capital of the council of Tapia de Casariego, is known for its strong links to fishing and the canning industry. Take a stroll around its beautiful fishing port and marina, and experience a live auction of the rula.
Sit on the terraces of the bars and restaurants on the quayside and contemplate, with the characteristic sound of seagulls in the background, the picturesque scene of its moored fleet, the island's lighthouse and the outer docks - the nineteenth-century work of Fernando Fernández-Casariego, the Marquis of Casariego.
Walk up through the seaside neighbourhood of San Sebastián, go as far as San Blas - its oldest area - and stroll through La Guardia to contemplate the breathtaking views of the Bay of Biscay from the Os Cañóis viewpoint.
Tapia impresses at first sight with its charming harbour and its seafaring houses. For its atmosphere of taverns, terraces and restaurants, for its beaches, for its people, open-minded and eager to welcome visitors.
It impresses with its panoramic views from its seafront promenade or its viewpoint. But Tapia is also impressive for its history and its illustrious figures, and it is precisely these aspects that you can explore in depth thanks to the exhibition "The Lords of the Palace Houses", located in the Casa de Cultura of the town of Tapia.
Tapia is festive, Celtic - in fact it is the birthplace of the Festival Intercéltico d'Occidente, declared of Tourist Interest -, and among its merits is that of being a pioneer of surfing in the Cantabrian Sea, its Anguileiro beach being the setting for one of the most famous surfing World Championship events.
But its pioneering status is not limited to the sport, as evidenced by the fact that Tapia was the first port where corn from America landed.
With a transoceanic and universalist vocation, Tapia offers you tranquillity by the sea, sport, sun and beach, excellent cuisine and a pleasant atmosphere.
