Hotel Casa de Castro. Cartavio. Coaña
Casa de Castro is a very familiar hotel in the broadest sense of the term, given that it preserves the history of four generations of the Castro family, in which there were some outstanding personalities.
Built at the end of the 19th century, it reached its peak of splendour in the first decades of the 20th century, and today, after an impeccable refurbishment, it continues to offer its guests the splendour of past times.
There is no doubt that Casa de Castro is a special place: its 20,000 square metre plot runs along the Camino de Santiago. In addition, its spectacular walled garden preserves the essence of centenary trees, and it has a centenary bakery and a beautiful chapel.
The outdoor area is crowned by a swimming pool, a solarium and two terraces.
It's easy to imagine that breakfast in any corner of the gardens, or in the exquisitely decorated interiors, is a way to extend a restful night's sleep.
Also, the more sporty guests have at their disposal a Fitness Center to maintain a healthy lifestyle by practicing physical activity.
And another detail to take into account is that Casa de Castro is located in Cartavio, a beautiful town in the council of Coaña, with its church, with colourful houses, with an atmosphere of pilgrims for being an obligatory stop on the Camino de Santiago, with plenty of beaches nearby, and with some emblematic forts such as Coaña and Mohías in the surroundings.
Hotel Quinta Duro. Cabueñes. Gijón
In one of the residential areas of Gijón, the well-known village of Cabueñes, is located Quinta Duro, which bears the name of one of the most illustrious surnames of the industrialisation of Asturias.
Hotel with a rural essence, its proximity to the city and excellent communication with it, make it just a few minutes from the centre of Gijón/Xixón and its beaches.
Among its many charms, there is a private park of 20,000 square metres, which is a kind of botanical garden, as it has numerous centenary trees.
Quinta Duro is a large house more than two centuries old, magnificently adapted to welcome the 21st century traveller, with his preferences and desires, who suddenly finds himself immersed in a period atmosphere, amidst rooms furnished with furniture and decoration that the house already possessed in 1860.
In this hotel you can dialogue with the past and rediscover the history of such illustrious figures as the steel magnate Pedro Duro and the pioneering aeronaut Jesús Fernández Duro.
Can you imagine breakfast in a cosy corner in the company of centenary trees and with the echo of stories of inventors and pioneers? Sublime, isn't it?
And after breakfast, your plans can multiply: a visit to the city of Gijón/Xixón, to see its museums, enjoy its cider houses and restaurants, go to its beaches, stroll along the coastal path and many other things. But also, as Quinta Duro is strategically located on the map of Asturias, you can go east or west, practically anywhere you like, with a return trip within the day.
Hotel La Corte de Lugás. Lugás. Villaviciosa
Located in the idyllic village of Lugás, in Villaviciosa, this hotel has a renowned range of accommodation and restaurants. In fact, in some foreign media, it appeared in a list of the 50 best hotels in the world.
An old 18th century Asturian mansion, splendidly restored, is the origin of this hotel, which offers different types of accommodation: different types of rooms and lodges. In this way, the client can choose according to his preferences and needs.
And of course, the breakfasts at La Corte de Lugás are dreamy, as defined by the hotel's owners. Therefore, it is no coincidence that they have appeared in a prestigious national media among the 10 best in Spain. You just have to see them (and try them when you can). The truth is that in this case the maxim that a picture is worth a thousand words is true.
Furthermore, Lugás is very close to Villaviciosa, its estuary and beaches. Or to fishing villages such as Tazones and Llastres. And of course, just a stone's throw from Oviedo/Uviéu, Gijón/Xixón or Avilés, among other places to visit. The Redes, Ponga and Picos de Europa Biosphere Reserves are also within easy reach.
Likewise, you cannot leave Lugás without visiting its sanctuary, located on a clear hill with wide panoramic views of the council and even the Cantabrian Sea. Santa María de Lugás is steeped in history and is the second most important Marian sanctuary in Asturias after Cuadonga/Covadonga. For a long time, it also received thousands of pilgrims and pilgrims, as, given its proximity to the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, many took a detour to worship the Virgin.
Hotel El Carmen. El Carmen. Ribadesella
The Hotel El Carmen, in Ribadesella, has a curious history, closely linked to the style and atmosphere of this establishment. It was in 1997, when rural tourism was taking its first steps in Asturias, and the Priority family fulfilled their dream. To build this dream they used the millenary stones that they rescued from the ruins of a prison in Gijón/Xixón, and the chosen setting was the pumarada of the old family mansion. The result was more than successful: a warm space, where rural customs are combined with sobriety, and at the same time comfortable modernity.
In a green and leafy environment, with a silence that alternates with the singing of birds, it is easy to guess that breakfast time is one of the most awaited. With those cheeses from the east of Asturias, those homemade sausages or those sweets made with all the care of those who feel a vocation for creating happy and healthy spaces.
And all this, with the added advantage that the village of El Carmen, from which the hotel takes its name, is only 4 kilometres from Ribadesella/Ribeseya, with its beautiful beaches just a stone's throw away, as well as the prehistoric cave of Tito Bustillo, the Picos de Europa, the river Sella and the entire eastern coast. In short, it is a strategic enclave to enjoy nature activities, or simply to enjoy the gastronomy and the good views.
Furthermore, a stroll through El Carmen will give you an idea of the beauty of the indiano architecture, as it has numerous indiano houses, as well as the cave of Les Pedroses, a jewel of Palaeolithic art.
Hotel Arpa de Hierba. La Pereda. Llanes
El Arpa de Hierba is a small hotel located in a charming village in Llanes, called La Pereda. It could be defined as a sea and mountain hotel, one of those that can only be found in Asturias. And that is because it has magnificent views - given that it is very close - of one of the most important pre-coastal mountain ranges on the European continent, the Cuera, and at the same time it is only 3 kilometres from the town of Llanes, with its beautiful beaches and excellent atmosphere, as well as being very well communicated with the rest of the beaches on the eastern coast.
At El Arpa de Hierba you can breathe tranquillity and peace. With an extensive estate, its surroundings are ideal for strolling, for taking the air and sun, for relaxed conversation, for reading, for creativity or for romanticism, not in vain is it considered one of the best romantic hotels in Spain.
In fact, the possibilities are endless, especially after breakfast in the garden, where the spectacular hydrangeas add a touch of colour against the green background of the vegetation. Tasty delicacies to face the day with energy and in the healthiest way.
A much-needed energy to visit the Picos de Europa or the Royal Site of Cuadonga/Covadonga, among other options.
Hotel Sucuevas. Mestas de Con. Cangas de Onís.
The Hotel Rural Sucuevas, in the beautiful village of Mestas de Con, in Cangas de Onís, has an indiano flavour, and a family history of effort and reunion with the land within its walls. It was built on his return from America - back in the late 19th century - by an indefatigable traveller and a lover of his native land. His loyalty to the village where he was born led him to build this Asturian house with granary, mill and chapel, leaving it as an inheritance to his descendants.
More than a century later, in the year 2000, the heirs of such a great work of art decided to restore it with great care and taste, and converted it into a hotel.
This is how Hotel Sucuevas was born, a small rural hotel with charm, where the concept of privacy and intimacy is taken into account, and where you can breathe the atmosphere of that kingdom of Asturias in the Middle Ages, which gave rise to so many stories and legends.
More than 30,000 square metres of land with hazelnut, apple and walnut trees, and inside restored furniture and artistic frescoes by local artists, all in wood and stone.
Among the curiosities of the Hotel Sucuevas is its pillow menu and its heliport. And of course its breakfasts, in those unique corners, surrounded by nature, and with local products, rich, fresh and healthy, whether cheeses, sweets, sausages, eggs, milk, fruit, etc...
Due to its strategic location, from Hotel Sucuevas you can practice all kinds of activities in nature, visit wonderful mountain villages, walk through the Picos de Europa, visit the capital of the council Cangas de Onís/Cangues d'Onís, or go to idyllic beaches on the east coast.
