Back Plans for a weekend in Asturias with children

Weekend plans in Asturias for children to enjoy with them
Asturias is a perfect destination for family leisure, especially with children. Why? Because you have dozens of plans to choose from, whether in the town or in the city. Because there are hundreds of beautiful, peaceful and healthy places, where children can be at ease, with no more worries than having fun, and at the same time, parents can take the opportunity to have a moment of relaxation, sharing that much-desired leisure time.
Here are some plans that are sure to seduce you!
Plans in the Cider Shire
The region known as Comarca de la Sidra is an area in the centre-east of Asturias made up of 6 municipalities: Bimenes, Cabranes, Colunga, Nava, Sariego and Villaviciosa. A natural area with a common denominator: the production of cider, the Asturian drink par excellence. It is precisely from this cultural singularity that it takes its name.
Well, in this region of sea and mountains, with green landscapes overlooking the Bay of Biscay, there are some beautiful fishing villages, one of which is Llastres, in Colunga.
Ideal to go with children: you have a beach, you have a port, you have lots of small streets (some of them steep) where the kids can run around and burn off energy without the pressure of road traffic, while enjoying the sea breeze and the views.
By the way, a panoramic view of sea and mountains that you cannot miss in Llastres is the one from the viewpoint of San Roque, right next to the chapel of the same name, and where you have a recreational area in the vicinity, perfect for children's recreation.
Also, very close to Llastres is the big surprise for the little ones (and not so little ones): the Jurassic Museum of Asturias (Muja), a very unique cultural space, located on theSan Telmo rasa (with beautiful views of the surroundings), and where, both inside and out, you can learn all about the world of dinosaurs and the geological age - the Jurassic - in which they reached their maximum splendour on planet Earth.
The exterior of the Muja is an authentic open-air recreation of the Jurassic period and its inhabitants: More than twenty life-size replicas of different dinosaurs, as well as other elements of their anatomy (skulls, legs, etc.), and even fossilised trunks and vegetation from the Jurassic period, such as the conifers that populate the garden area. To complete this setting, there is a photocall with a replica of dinosaur eggs, where children can get inside and take fun photographs.
And to round off the day, you can always enjoy the great gastronomic offer, basically seafood, in a restaurant or cider house in Llastres and the surrounding area.
Plans in Gijón/Xixón: The Aquarium and the Atlantic Botanic Garden
The city of Gijón/Xixón offers a wide variety of attractions for you to enjoy with your children, and two of the most outstanding ones are the Gijón Bioparc Aquarium and the Atlantic Botanical Garden.
The Gijón Bioparc Aquarium offers you an intense and entertaining tour of 60 freshwater and saltwater aquariums. A total of 12 ecosystems and more than two million litres of water to recreate the life of rivers, the Cantabrian coast, the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, the American tropical rainforest, the Pacific and Indian Oceans, the great African rivers and lakes and the Mediterranean Sea. So 4,500 animals and 410 species are what you can see with your children during your visit.
With the added advantage of having a section with a wide variety of activities for children: Guided tour of the technical areas, Aquarist for a day, Yoga for children, Sleeping with sharks, Robotix under the sea, Jellyfish expert, Urban vegetable garden, etc. And all with a didactic focus on environmental education and an approach to nature.
The Atlantic Botanical Garden in Gijón/Xixón is a plant museum designed to study, conserve and disseminate the flora and vegetation of the North Atlantic. It is the first botanical garden in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula and stands out for its non-generalist approach, based on specialised collections of flora.
It is ideal for the whole family to enjoy its 19 hectares, where you can visit the Historical Garden of La Isla, two forests - the Aliseda del río Peñafrancia and the Carbayera de El Tragamón -, a traditional Asturian farmhouse, a children's area known as the Cuélebre Forest and an original labyrinth of laurel.
Your children will be able to enjoy an intense educational agenda with guided tours, educational itineraries and botanical campus, among other activities.
You will soon find the first surprise of the route: the door that leads to the house of the tooth fairy and her personal letterbox.
You continue walking and after passing a house with a blue façade, you go back under the trees, but don't forget to keep your eyes peeled as the goblins and their houses dot every corner of the path.
Ideally, you should walk this whole stretch and then retrace your steps so that you don't come out onto the road, discovering new details.
When you get back to the Sanctuary, you can always have a drink in the recreational area, so that the children can play on the grass or bathe in one of the river pools.
