- Title Siero
- Address Locality: La Pola Siero
- Days Days: Easter Sunday
- Type Type: Festival of Touristic Interest of the Principality of Asturias
This festival is always celebrated on the Tuesday following Easter Sunday. From early morning, the most historic and central area of La Pola Siero is filled with beautifully decorated stalls where you can admire and purchase Painted Eggs of various sizes and designs. Many of them feature motifs related to traditional Asturian culture, as well as different phrases and symbols.
A very special moment of this festival is the Blessing of the Painted Eggs in the Town Hall square, and from that moment on, cider flows, good food, bagpipe music, and celebration take place, culminating in a late-night dance party that lasts until dawn.
The tradition of Painted Eggs has an uncertain origin and dates back several centuries. Specifically in Siero, it has been passed down orally from generation to generation, and it may be linked - this is only a hypothesis - to the arrival of workers from Central Europe who came to work in the mines in both Siero and Langreo, where the first coal deposits were explored.
