- Title Tineo
- Address Locality: Navelgas
- Days Days: 25th August
- Type Type: Festival of Touristic Interest of the Principality of Asturias
The purpose of Asturias Peoples' Day is to foster the brotherhood and solidarity among the different Asturian communities, showcasing what they have in common as well as their unique characteristics. Ultimately, it aims to promote a sense of inclusive Asturian identity that is open to the world.
In each edition, a village in Asturias is honored and presented with the Paloma de la Fraternidad (Dove of Fraternity). The people of the honored village are warmly welcomed in Navelgas, reflecting the hospitality and defining traits of this village and, in general, the rural Asturian world. Representatives and residents from previously twinned villages, as well as other visitors and tourists, join in the festivities, creating a spontaneous atmosphere of joyful coexistence.
During the official ceremony, the Chosco de Oro (Golden Chosco) is awarded, symbolizing two of our most cherished traditions. It recognizes individuals and institutions that excel in promoting, disseminating, and defending Asturias.
The Silver Blueberry, on the other hand, distinguishes individuals or groups who stand out with their contributions in the fields of ethnography, folklore, gastronomy, music, and other cultural expressions.
The program typically includes a Reception for Awardees and Authorities, a Parade of Folk Groups and invited groups, and the Award Ceremony. The day is filled with lively entertainment and other recreational and cultural activities.
The celebration usually takes place on the last weekend of August.
