Safe tourism
As a general rule…
- Keep your belongings in sight at all times.
- Safeguard your purse or wallet on public transport and in crowds (street markets, shows, etc.).
- Keep an eye on your photo or video camera in recreational areas.
- When you go to the beach or pool, take only the essentials.
- If you use a vehicle, do not leave valuable or eye-catching objects in sight.
- As far as possible, try not to walk around empty streets or poorly-lit areas.
- Beware of suspicious "help" (someone telling you that you have stains on your clothing, damage to your vehicle, etc.).
These are usually tricks to rob you. - Do not get involved in gambling or accept "bargains" on the street. They are sure to be a ruse or a scam.
At the hotel or apartment...
- Do not leave keys, money or valuables in your room. Use safe deposit boxes.
- In communal areas (reception, restaurants, pool), keep an eye on your luggage and personal items (bags, cameras, etc.).
