Cultural route and urban walk with your dog around Gijón/Xixón
Gijón/Xixón has it all: a Roman past, a seafaring soul, an industrial character and a great urban life. But, above all, it is an open, lively and very animal-friendly city. In fact, it was the first city in Spain to receive the award for Best Dogfriendly Destination in 2017. So, if you're travelling to Gijón with your dog, you can rest assured that your pet will be welcome here and you'll feel right at home.
A good place to start your route is right where the famous Letronas de los Jardines de la Reina. From there, cross the quay towards the Revillagigedo Palace and enter Cimavilla, the oldest and most charming neighbourhood in the city. You'll find historic streets, Roman remains, traditional architecture and a perfect atmosphere for a walk with your dog.
A short climb will take you up to the Cerro de Santa Catalina, where you'll find the imposing Elogio del Horizonte, Eduardo Chillida's sculpture that looks out over the Bay of Biscay. The views from here are spectacular, and it's a great place to take a good photo with your dog in Gijón/Xixón.
Afterwards, walk down the narrow streets of the neighbourhood, past the house where Jovellanos was born, until you reach the Town Hall square. In the surrounding area you'll find cider bars with pet-friendly terraces, perfect for stopping off, resting and enjoying a good Asturian meal with your pet.
