Suitable for everyone, it offers turquoise water pools, constant shade and a large final pool where bathing is almost obligatory. Pure nature, accessible and refreshing: an ideal getaway to enjoy one of the most magical corners of eastern Asturias.

The route to the Olla de San Vicente is one of the most popular and accessible in eastern Asturias, ideal for a family getaway or for those looking for a short walk with a spectacular destination. This trail follows the course of the Dobra river, a tributary of the Sella, whose clean, transparent waters accompany the walker throughout the entire route.

The route begins near the village of Tornín, next to the N-625 road, where there is a small car park. From here there is a path of about 2.5 km each way (5 km round trip), which runs parallel to the Dobra along an initially wide and easy track, perfect for families with children from 4 or 5 years of age. Although it is not suitable for pushchairs, it can be done comfortably with baby carriers.

The first few metres of the path cross a leafy and shady environment, where elm, ash, alder, willow and maple trees form a dense riverside forest. The murmur of the water, the reflection of the sun among the leaves and the presence of small pools and waterfalls invite you to walk calmly, enjoying the natural beauty of the surroundings.

As you go on, the path narrows slightly and becomes more difficult in some sections with rocks or wet areas, where it is advisable to take extra care if you are with children. However, this part becomes a real adventure for the little ones, who find in the roots, stones and curves of the path a perfect space to imagine, explore and play.

Along the route, as well as traditional stone huts and rock formations shaped by the water, there are several natural "ollas", small pools eroded into the rock by the flow of the river, which form pools, waterfalls and backwaters with a characteristic turquoise colour. They are perfect places to stop and cool off, especially in summer.

The final destination is the spectacular Olla de San Vicente, a large pool up to five metres deep surrounded by white rocks and lush vegetation. The water, which comes straight down from the Picos de Europa, is crystal clear and very cold, but irresistible for the bravest. It is a perfect place to swim, have a picnic or just relax and enjoy the scenery. Those looking for a higher view can climb to the upper prao, from where there is a breathtaking view of the pool and its surroundings.

The return is by the same route, rounding off a route that, without being demanding, offers a very direct contact with the purest Asturian nature. Due to its beauty and accessibility, the route to the Olla de San Vicente is one of the most popular in the region and a classic to repeat at any time of the year.

  • It runs partially through the Río Sella SAC and the Ponga-Amieva SAC and SPA of the Natura 2000 Network.

  • Don't leave a trail. Collect all your waste, including organic waste. Nature is not a dumping ground.
