From its summit, you can enjoy views of the Picos de Europa, the Sueve and Cuera mountain ranges, and the Cantabrian Sea. A route that combines rural landscape, livestock tradition and nature in its purest form. Ideal for those seeking peace and quiet and great panoramic views.

The route to Pico Ibeu starts in the small rural village of La Robellada, in the council of Onís. This enclave, surrounded by meadows and woods, preserves the essence of the traditional Asturian landscape and is the starting point of an itinerary that combines nature, livestock and spectacular views.

From the first ramps, the path ascends gently along a well-marked track, flanked by oaks, hazelnut trees and pastures used by livestock. As you gain height, you leave the farmhouse behind and head towards the Collada Pozabal, an intermediate pass where you will find a paddock and a small artificial pond, elements that reflect the link between the territory and livestock farming. This is an ideal spot to take a break and contemplate the vastness of the landscape, now open towards the inland valleys of eastern Asturias.

From here, the track turns into a mountain path, gaining in height and offering a more demanding stretch until it reaches the summit of Pico Ibeu, at 1005 metres above sea level. The final ascent, although short, requires a little more effort, but the reward comes in the form of extraordinary views.

The summit of Pico Ibeu acts as a spectacular natural viewpoint. To the south, the Central and Western massifs of the Picos de Europa rise up, to the north you can clearly see the Cantabrian Sea, and to the east and west are the Cuera and Sueve mountain ranges, respectively. It is the perfect place to stop, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view that is hard to forget.

The return is along the same path, allowing you to enjoy the landscape from a new perspective. The descent, comfortable and gradual, again crosses meadows and wooded surroundings until returning to La Robellada, where a short but very complete route comes to an end, ideal for a quiet day of panoramic hiking in the heart of eastern Asturias.

Basic tips before going into the mountains

  • Avoid approaching livestock.
  • If you find mastiffs protecting livestock, do not approach them, do not pet them and do not feed them. Do not allow them to follow you or stray from their herd. They are working.
  • If you go with a dog, always keep it on a leash.
  • Don't leave a trail. Collect all your waste, including organic waste. Nature is not a dumping ground.
  • Act with prudence. Plan your route well, take everything you need and make sure it is adapted to your physical capacity.
