According to tradition, the cult of the martyrs Cosme and Damián dates back to the time of the transfer of the relics from Toledo to Oviedo/Uviéu at the time of the Muslim invasion.
To the original 18th century Latin cross plan, the portico that surrounds the church on three of its façades and the belfry tower were added in the 19th century. The latter, with a square section, is divided into three floors, the lower one open and covered by a stone wall, the other two are separated by a line of imposts. The entrance to the church, under the tower, is through a doorway with Baroque ears. The materials used in the construction are masonry for the walls, wood for the portico and ashlars for the corners, openings, etc. The nave has a gabled roof and the tower has a four-pitched roof.
Inside, the nave is covered with a barrel vault, with lunettes and ribbed vaulting in the chancel. The entire vault is decorated with paintings. Opposite the sanctuary, there is still the so-called Casa de la Novena (House of the Novena), inside which there is a popular almshouse from the 18th century.
