Through chestnut forests and with views of the Sierra del Aramo, you can discover three old mills restored next to a crystal-clear stream, witnesses to the agricultural tradition and the milling of spelt in the heart of Asturias.
The Corroriu Mills Route offers a short but intense journey through the rural heart of the council of Quirós, combining ethnographic heritage, traditional architecture and nature. The route starts in Veiga, next to the hostel, where there is an information panel and parking area. From here, a short climb up the road leads us to the turn-off to Vil.lagondú, a small village that conserves examples of popular architecture such as granaries, granaries and stone houses, with views of the Picu Mayor and the Sierra del Aramo.
The path ascends towards Fresneo, a village historically linked to the cultivation of spelt and the production of the traditional "queso de bota". At the entrance to the village there is a fountain where it is possible to refresh oneself before taking the main street that connects with a short stretch of road. From here, signs indicate the access to the mills.
A path enters the forest, between chestnut and oak trees, leading the walker to the Corroriu Mills. Rehabilitated in the 1990s, these three stone structures next to a stream of crystal-clear water preserve the memory of the hydraulic use of water to grind spelt, a traditional cereal in the mountainous areas of Asturias. Two of them are next to each other, and a third, after crossing a bridge, is located a little further downstream. Although their exact date of construction is not known, they are already documented in the 18th century.
After visiting the mills, the route continues along a beautiful forest path that allows you to enjoy the shade of the forest and views of peaks such as Pelitrón, Peña del Alba and Gamoniteiru. The route widens when you reach Faedo, where you can make a stop next to the chapel and its centenary yew tree. From here, the route continues through meadows and wooded areas until it returns to Veiga, thus closing this circular itinerary.
Simple, well signposted and of great heritage value, the Corroriu Mills Route is an excellent option for getting to know the traditional Asturian way of life in a natural environment of great beauty.

Basic tips before going into the mountains
- Avoid approaching livestock.
- If you find mastiffs protecting livestock, do not approach them, do not pet them and do not feed them. Do not allow them to follow you or stray from their herd. They are working.
- If you go with a dog, always keep it on a leash.
- Don't leave a trail. Collect all your waste, including organic waste. Nature is not a dumping ground.
- Act with prudence. Plan your route well, take everything you need and make sure it is adapted to your physical capacity.
