Along the way, the route takes us to the Eo estuary, an ideal refuge for aquatic birds, which has been declared a Site of Community Interest and a Special Protection Area for Birds. A perfect plan for nature lovers, especially in winter.

The Eo River Path starts in A Veiga / Vegadeo, an Asturian town in the far west of the region. The starting point is in Medal Park, next to the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. From here, the route crosses the town in the direction of Galicia. On leaving A Veiga / Vegadeo, the path coincides with the road leading to the town of Miou, so it is important to pay attention in this initial section due to the presence of road traffic.

As we advance, the route begins to climb towards the village of Miou. Although the climb is moderate, the effort is rewarded by the views that open up towards the Eo estuary, which accompanies the route with its calm and majestic presence. Once we reach Miou, we come to a fork. Taking the path to the right, the path descends towards the estuary, crossing a landscape that combines meadows and small riverside woods. On the way down, there is a natural viewpoint with panoramic views of the Eo estuary.

The path continues to the recreational area next to the estuary, where a wooden walkway leads to the jetty, from where you can see the water almost at the surface. This area is perfect for resting and enjoying the surroundings, as it is equipped with benches and tables. The tranquillity of the landscape invites you to stop and watch the birds come and go over the water. The biological richness of the Eo estuary, declared a Site of Community Interest (SCI) and Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA), is remarkable, with numerous species of migratory and resident birds, such as herons, cormorants and curlews, which find their ideal refuge in the estuary.

From the recreational area, the path ascends gently in the direction of Louteiro. This part of the route is along a wide, well-conditioned track, which allows you to enjoy the walk effortlessly. When you reach Louteiro, it is worth stopping to visit its small hermitage and contemplate the views before setting off on the return journey.

The last stage of the path descends towards Miou, where the circular circuit ends. From here, the final descent towards A Veiga / Vegadeo allows you to enjoy the rural surroundings and the views over the estuary once again, completing a route that combines the nature of the coastal wetlands with the charm of the small Asturian villages.

The Eo River Path is a simple and accessible route, ideal for families and birdwatchers. The proximity of the estuary and the variety of ecosystems it crosses make this trail an enriching experience both from a natural and cultural point of view.

  • It runs through the Biosphere Reserve Río Eo, Oscos e Terras de Burón, ZEC and ZEPA Ría del Eo of the Natura 2000 Network.
