During the route, you can visit the Fonchada Cave, a legendary refuge for Muslim troops during the flight from the siege of Don Pelayo.
The Magic Forest and Ḷḷagunas de Ḷḷagüeños Route begins on the outskirts of Zarréu, at a point known as La Prohida, at kilometre 103.5 of the AS-15 road. The path descends towards the Las Corradas field, entering a forest of oak, beech and birch trees. Along the way, small sculptures and symbols of Celtic and Vaqueira inspiration add a mystical air to the surroundings.
The path continues gently uphill to a dense beech forest, where the path is cool and damp. After 2.5 kilometres, take a detour to the right that leads to the first lake, the Chagunacho. This small grazing plain is a reminder of the ancestral use of these lands by the vaqueiros de alzada. Further on, the route reaches the Laguna de L.lagüeños, located in a spectacular glacial cirque on the border between Asturias and León. The crystal clear waters and the small spring nearby offer an ideal place to rest.
The return follows the same path, descending again through the forest to La Prohida. This route, of moderate difficulty, stands out for its natural and cultural charm, and is ideal for those looking for an immersive walk in the southwest of Asturias.
As a curiosity, a small detour on the way allows us to approach the Fonchada Cave, a legendary place that, according to legend, was a refuge for Muslim troops during the flight from the siege of Don Pelayo.

Basic tips before going into the mountains
- Avoid approaching livestock.

- If you go with a dog, always keep it on a leash.
- Don't leave a trail. Collect all your waste, including organic waste. Nature is not a dumping ground.
- Act with prudence. Plan your route well, take everything you need and make sure it is adapted to your physical capacity.
