A short and easy walk that connects with the Asturias of our grandparents, when corn and water marked the rhythm of rural life. Heritage, landscape and memory in an essential trail to discover the essence of the Asturian peasant world.
The Bimenes Mills Route is a beautiful walk that allows you to get to know part of the ethnographic heritage linked to water in the council of Bimenes, travelling along several restored mills along the river Pra, between riverside woods and pasture areas. This is an easy route suitable for all ages, especially recommended for families, with a linear route of about 3 kilometres - round trip along the same path -, which offers the possibility of becoming a circular route if it is linked, in Santa Gadía, with the PR-AS 142.
The route begins in a small car park located on the BI-4, between Viñay and Santa Gadía. From here, a path descends to the bridge over the river Pra, where the most ethnographic section of the route begins. The path, narrow and well-defined, winds parallel to the riverbed, surrounded by riverside vegetation and accompanied by the sound of the water.
Soon the Barrial Mill appears, restored and in good condition, which introduces us to the fundamental role that these constructions played in the economy and day-to-day life of the area. A short distance away, the path takes us to the Molino de Flora, also well preserved, and a small detour takes us to the Molino de Ferrero, hidden among the vegetation, which adds a touch of discovery to the walk.
Following the course of the river, you reach the Máxima Mill, and shortly afterwards a gentle ascent begins to the Fermina Mill, the last on the route, also restored and with a small recreational area ideal for resting and enjoying the surroundings.

From this point, families with children or those who prefer an easy walk can retrace their steps back to the car park, completing the most accessible version of the route.
However, there is the option of continuing the route by linking up with the PR AS-142 to turn the route into a circular one. From here, the path climbs gently up a track in the direction of Santa Gadía, although it should be noted that this part of the route is not signposted, so it is essential to take a track to avoid getting lost. Before reaching the village, you can enjoy the views from the Mirador a Peñamayor viewpoint, with panoramic views of the mountains and the valley along the way.
From Santa Gadía, there is only a short descent to the starting point, thus closing a circuit that combines heritage, nature and rural landscape, offering a sample of the agricultural and hydraulic past of Bimenes.
Basic tips before going into the mountains
- Avoid approaching livestock.
- If you find mastiffs protecting livestock, do not approach them, do not pet them and do not feed them. Do not allow them to follow you or stray from their herd. They are working.
- If you go with a dog, always keep it on a leash.
- Don't leave a trail. Collect all your waste, including organic waste. Nature is not a dumping ground.
- Act with prudence. Plan your route well, take everything you need and make sure it is adapted to your physical capacity.
