We leave Degaña (850 m above sea level) along the AS-15 road, following the Ibias river valley uphill until we reach the Cerredo pass (1400 m above sea level), where we reach the summit after 12 km of cycling. Here we enter the province of León, the road becomes the CL-626 and, after a gentle descent of 12 km, we reach Villablino. After crossing the mining valley of Laciana, with the river Sil at our side, we will approach the unique gorge of Puente de Las Palomas, 80 m high, where we will change course towards the north, to begin the 20 km climb to the Somiedo pass (1485 m), once again in Asturias, entering the landscapes offered by the Somiedo Natural Park.
We now have a pleasant 14 km descent to the Somiedo reservoir to regain our strength. We will pass through pastures and "brañas", La Pola Somiedo being one of the few villages on this route. Once at the reservoir, the mythical ascent to La Farrapona (1708 m) begins, where we arrive after 19 km of ascent. On the ascent we are accompanied by the impressive view of the Arbellales anticline. From Saliencia onwards we can enjoy a high mountain landscape where the ramps become more demanding and the scenery becomes more beautiful.
From La Farrapona we descend 6 km to Torrestío, where we enter León again to climb for 6 km to Puerto Ventana (1588 m), the natural boundary between Babia and Asturias. Shortly before reaching the top of the pass we can enjoy magnificent views of the San Emiliano Valley (Babia de Yuso) from the Venta de las Ubiñas viewpoint. We enter the Natural Park of Las Ubiñas-La Mesa, in a beautiful descent of about 20 km through the impressive landscape of the gorge of La Estrechura. Near Fresnedo we will find Cueva Huerta, declared a Natural Monument, as it is one of the largest caves with a length of 14.5 km. Shortly after is the Prehistoric Park, almost reaching Teverga, where our route ends. If you have the strength, don't miss the Collegiate Church of San Pedro, an exponent of the Byzantine Romanesque style in Asturias.
