Comarca del Nora

Comarca del Nora, located in the very heart of Asturias, is a true ecological and energetic treasure. To cycle through it is to enter at a slow pace into one of the industrial and mining engines of the Principality, where you can enjoy nature and the vestiges of its carboniferous, enlightened and medieval past.

Cyclists en route from Gijón/Xixón to Oviedo/Uviéu cross Llanera, in the north of the region.
This cycle touring route in the Nora region, which connects the coast with the interior, offers a moderate profile route ideal for those looking for an experience that combines physical effort with the possibility of enjoying the Asturian landscapes.

Puente Romano de Colloto

The south of the region can be explored on the mountain route that starts in Oviedo/Uviéu and leads to Cangues d'Onís/Cangas de Onís, in eastern Asturias. Before entering the toughest area, those who opt for this itinerary will travel along a section with a gentler terrain and roads with moderate traffic that crosses La Pola Siero, home to one of the most important livestock markets in Europe. This could be a good place to stop and sample the gastronomy of the area, a great producer of quality cider and the birthplace of Varé cheese.

Following the murmur of the streams

On the part that follows the Nora river path, cycle-tourism lovers will cycle accompanied by the typical riverside flora and fauna. A little further on, we recommend a stop along the way and take the opportunity to visit the 15th century Meres Palace. Next to this rural mansion, an example of the numerous palaces and emblazoned houses that dot the region, there is an adjoining chapel dedicated to Santa Ana.

Palacio de Meres

Just a stone's throw from Oviedo/Uviéu, Gijón/Xixón and Avilés, and well connected with the metropolitan area, the Nora region invites you to cycle and discover the essence of Asturias. Its varied offer of outdoor activities and the richness of its cultural and industrial heritage will encourage cycle tourists to extend their stay to explore its paths, where the mining past is present, not only in the form of castles and shafts, but also in the most deeply-rooted traditions.

Pozo Mosquitera

To live a cycling tourism experience in the Nora Region is to let yourself be enveloped by the serenity of its landscapes. The murmur of the streams, the scent of fresh grass and the crystalline waters of the Nalón and Nora rivers generate a relaxing sensation of connection with nature. Every pedal stroke is an invitation to disconnect from stress and enjoy the beauty of Asturias.
