Info
Nature is not only enjoyment, food and materials, but also life and healing, or at least that is what those who came to this area believed; specifically, to the lepers' spring, almost at the beginning of the route, to cure their illness. Whether this is true or not, a walk through the Montegrande beech forest means enjoying one of the best forests in the region.
It is a simple and comfortable route thanks to a wide track that reveals secrets, such as those of the occasional old coal galleries, now sealed, which were not exploited for more than two or three years.
In contrast, the trees are covered with lichens, some of which, like the old man's or capuchin's beard, tell us about the high quality of the air in these forests.
And to top it all off, the Xiblu, a set of three waterfalls totalling a total of 100 metres of great beauty, where the water rushes wildly down the mountain. Instead of returning by the same route, we can walk back to La Foceicha, a route of about 8.24 kilometres that will take us about the same time as the return trip.
Route
Braña La Puerca - Xiblu Waterfall 9,9
This beautiful route begins in the car park at Braña La Puerca, located on the AS-228 road, after passing through the village of Parmu.
800 metres into the route, there is a signpost pointing the way to the Fuente de los Leprosos spring, which is at the bottom of the valley. A hundred metres further on, we can see the mouth of an old coal mine.
We will have walked some 4.300 kilometres when we see that the slope begins. The river Fundil or La Verde will accompany us on this part of the route. A little further on, we will come to a fork in the road, we must choose the path to the left, to follow the course of the river in the opposite direction to the current.
Once we have reached the end of the route, at kilometre 4.9, we reach the beautiful Xiblu waterfall, so called because of the whistling sound produced by the wind when it blows in a certain direction. We return along the same path, but in the opposite direction.
If you wish, there is the possibility of crossing it; to do so, all you have to do is continue to the next village, La Foceicha.
