Along the way, we discover the chapel of A Veiga del Carro, the historic enclave of A Valía - cradle of the Lombard watchmakers and inventors - and the Museo Casa Natal del Marqués de Sargadelos, a witness to the traditional rural life of the Oscos.
This route, which runs through the Río Eo, Oscos e Terras do Burón Biosphere Reserve, alternates sections of path and asphalt, so it is important to exercise extreme caution and respect traffic regulations. It shares part of its route with the GR-109, so it is advisable to pay special attention to the signposting.
The route begins next to the Casa de la Cultura in Santa Eulalia de Oscos, from where we head towards Millarado, crossing a leafy forest of oak, birch and pine trees. This first stretch, cool and shady, offers a comfortable and relaxing start to the walk.
On the way we find the recreational area of Millarado, before descending gently to As Poceiras, a charming little hamlet. From here, we continue to Millarado, where we join a stretch of asphalt and turn right to begin an ascent towards A Veiga del Carro. At this point we find the chapel of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, a traditional construction of stone, wood and slate, next to which stands a majestic yew tree, an emblematic tree in Asturian culture.
The path continues downhill through forests, heading towards the Forcón de los Ríos, the confluence of the Villanueva and Barcia rivers, which gives its name to the route. After crossing the inland Oscos road, we follow a path parallel to the Villanueva river, where the landscape becomes even more lush with alders, ashes, willows and hazelnut trees, providing shade and coolness along the way.
We continue on to the village of A Valía, an enclave of great ethnographic value and the birthplace of the Lombardía family, a family of watchmakers and inventors who left their mark on the history of the area. The route then takes us through San Xulián and Caraduxe, small rural villages that precede our arrival at Ferreirela de Riba, where we find the Casa de los Lombardero, a magnificent example of traditional Oscos architecture.
From here, we continue along an asphalted section, leaving a path on the left that leads to Ferreirela de Baxo, where we can visit the Casa Natal del Marqués de Sargadelos Museum. This museum recreates a traditional Oscos dwelling, providing an insight into the peasant life and the history of this illustrious personage.
From the museum, the way back is easy and in a few minutes we return to Santalla, completing a circular route that combines history, nature and culture in a unique environment.
