The route offers a two-hour round trip that delves into the maritime essence of the town of Ortigueira. It allows you to explore from its most contemporary area to its traditional centre, its hidden fishing port, its cliffs and spectacular views. With a gradient of 55 metres and a maximum altitude of 70 metres, it is an ideal way to enjoy the coastal landscape.
This route starts in the town of Ortigueira (Coaña), in the park next to the Casa de la Cultura de Coaña. The path takes us through the village to the other end, where it joins the Senda Costera E-9. Start the route by passing in front of the Casa de la Cultura and turning into the first street on the right.
After walking 200 metres, turn left at the next street, passing in front of the Municipal Library. Following the right-hand side of the street, you will come to the San Agustín lighthouse. About six hundred metres further on, you will find an information panel on the route, and a little further on, a viewpoint from where you can contemplate the sea, the cliffs and the beaches of the western coast.
When you reach kilometre 1.12, you will find the lighthouse and the chapel of San Agustín, as well as two squares: one, on one side of the chapel, with a boat as its central axis, and the second square, in front of the lighthouse, which contains a wall with a prayer for the victims of maritime accidents. The path continues along the street closest to the cliff towards the village.
At kilometre 1.40, cross the road until you reach a large red house, which is a restaurant. Seven hundred metres further on, you will come to a square with a bust of a local character, famous for donating large sums of money to the construction of civil works. In front of the square, you can also admire a picturesque mansion house and then, at approximately kilometre 2.3, turn right around it to continue the descent towards the port of Ortigueira. Three hundred metres further on, at the crossroads, take the path to the left, and then go down a flight of steps towards the pass. Once down the stairs, there is a wall fountain on the right hand side.
At kilometre 3 you will reach the quay of Ortigueira, a simple fishing harbour with a cetárea and some boats. Tucked between the cliffs, this harbour has great charm. After admiring the views, turn back and take the first street on the right, entering a maze of narrow stairs that you must climb following the route markings, which are well signposted.
At the top of the stairs, at approximately kilometre 3.4, you will come to two crossroads in a row. Go straight ahead at the first and turn right at the second. All that remains is to continue along the route until you reach the end of the route, located about 300 metres from the first junction. At this point the route ends, with an information panel on the Coastal Path with which the route connects.
The route, suitable for all types of walkers, invites you to lose yourself among the labyrinthine streets of this picturesque fishing village and to contemplate the impressive views of the cliffs.

Basic tips before going into the mountains
- If you go with a dog, always keep it on a leash.
- Avoid approaching livestock.
- If you find mastiffs protecting livestock, do not approach them, do not pet them and do not feed them. Do not allow them to follow you or stray from their herd. They are working.
- Don't leave a trail. Collect all your waste, including organic waste. Nature is not a dumping ground.
- Act with prudence. Plan your route well, take everything you need and make sure it is adapted to your physical capacity.
