We set off from Nueva on the AS-340 road, which we will stay on until practically the end of the route, and we will soon begin to climb the first gradients as the route changes direction from east to west, as we enter the valley nestled between the Sierra del Mazuco and the Sierra Cueva Negra. We continue to Llamigu, where the road becomes more winding and the gradient increases as we reach the Alto del Torno pass.

We descend to Rinsena and tackle the climb up to the Collado de Igena, which is gentler and shorter than the previous one, before continuing through the valley and subsequently negotiating a series of small passes which, following a very distinct north-east to south-west direction, bring us closer to Corao.

Once in Corao, we’ll join the AS-114 road and, after a short stretch of 1.2 km, we’ll leave it at Sotu Cangues to cross the River Güeña and take the path to Cuadonga/Covadonga, which will lead us to Cangues d’Onís/Cangas de Onís.

Cangues d’Onís/Cangas de Onís, as well as boasting a wonderful atmosphere, offers a very interesting visit, during which you mustn’t miss the Roman Bridge – which is actually a medieval bridge but has undeniable charm – or the Chapel of the Holy Cross, built on top of an ancient dolmen and which once housed the Cross of Victory.

Observe the direction of traffic on urban stretches of road.
