The route starts at the Murias car park, where the clear signposting and the good condition of the path make it suitable for everyone. A few metres from the start, cross the road and you will see the information sign for the route, from where the path starts to descend gently until it reaches the riverbed of the river, known as the Río Negro. After crossing a first wooden bridge, the path enters the riverside forest, where chestnut, oak and alder trees form a gallery of vegetation that accompanies the walker throughout the entire route.
In the undergrowth, the presence of the black blueberry stands out, a modest but essential plant in the balance of the local ecosystem, a source of food for numerous species of birds. The sound of water and birdsong envelop the environment, while some small steps help to overcome the unevenness, facilitating access even for those who are not used to walking in the mountains.
As you advance, the murmur of the water becomes more and more present, until, finally, the Xurbeo Waterfall appears before the visitor's eyes. White and vibrant, the waterfall cascades down the dark rock as if it were emerging from a natural niche, with small lateral threads that amplify the beauty of the fall. The contrast between the water and the stone, between the light and the shadows of the forest, creates a serene, almost magical atmosphere that invites contemplation and silence.
In addition, at Easter and during the summer months (July to September), the Aller Town Council organises the "Mythological Xurbeo" show in these surroundings, a dramatised experience where the Asturian mythological beings - the diañu burlón, the nuberu, the busgosu or the xana - accompany visitors along the route, mixing reality and legend in a unique journey. According to tradition, these protective creatures of the forests join forces to ensure that, even in the height of summer, the waterfall maintains its flow. If you are visiting the area at this time of year, it is advisable to check availability and book a place at www.aller.es.
The return journey follows the same route, completing a route that is short in distance but generous in sensations, offering an immersive experience in the nature of the valley of the river Negro, among forests, water, culture and tradition.
The Xurbeo Waterfall Route is, without a doubt, one of the essential proposals for those who wish to discover the central Asturian mountains from an accessible and familiar approach, where the beauty of the surroundings is added to the magic of the legends.

Basic tips before going into the mountains
- Avoid approaching livestock.
- If you find mastiffs protecting livestock, do not approach them, do not pet them and do not feed them. Do not allow them to follow you or stray from their herd. They are working.
- If you go with a dog, always keep it on a leash.
- Don't leave a trail. Collect all your waste, including organic waste. Nature is not a dumping ground.
- Act with prudence. Plan your route well, take everything you need and make sure it is adapted to your physical capacity.
