The route climbs through meadows and pastures to the Trespandiu pass, offering panoramic views of the Cares valley and the foothills of the Picos de Europa, before returning along a circular route.

The Trespandiu Route begins in the car park next to the La Vidre bridge, in Trescares, a place full of history and beauty. This medieval single-span bridge, built on limestone crests with radial voussoirs forming a slightly pointed arch, may have originated in Roman times. It is believed to have formed part of an ancient Roman road that crossed the rivers Deva and Cares as a branch of the famous Via Maritima of Agrippa. In addition to its historical value, the natural setting of the bridge, over the river Cares, offers a spectacular start to the route.

From here, the ascent begins along a well-marked path that meanders through meadows and small woods, gradually gaining height. As we advance, we reach the Las Retuertas spring, an ideal place to take a short break and replenish water before continuing the route.

From the spring, the path continues to climb up to Collado Coteru Lluevas, one of the first panoramic points on the route. In this section, the landscape combines open pastureland with areas of low scrubland, allowing you to enjoy wide views of the surroundings. The path continues towards Majada Llosa Llabrá, an enclave of livestock tradition where the remains of old huts are still preserved.

The ascent becomes more demanding as we approach Collado Trespandiu, the highest point of the route and an excellent natural viewpoint. From here there are privileged views of the Cares valley and the foothills of the Picos de Europa National Park, offering the perfect moment to contemplate the landscape and take a break.

The descent follows a well-defined path down to Oceño, a small rural village that preserves its traditional architecture and the leisurely pace of mountain life. It is a good place to stop and enjoy the surroundings before continuing.

The return path initially follows the same route until shortly before Collado Trespandiu. After passing by the church of San Juan, we take a detour to the left that leads us towards Majada Jaces. This section runs along the western slope of Pico Haya, offering new views of the valley and passing through an area of high pastures where it is common to see livestock.

As we descend, the path links up with a more wooded stretch that ends up connecting again with the initial path, thus closing a circular route that brings us back to the La Vidre bridge, completing a journey that combines heritage, landscape and nature.

The Trespandiu route is a varied and very complete itinerary, which combines moderate ascents, open landscapes, pastures, forests and mountain views. An excellent option for those looking for a hiking experience in the most authentic nature of Asturias.

Basic tips before going into the mountains

  • Avoid approaching livestock.
  • If you find mastiffs protecting livestock, do not approach them, do not pet them and do not feed them. Do not allow them to follow you or stray from their herd. They are working.
  • If you go with a dog, always keep it on a leash.
  • Don't leave a trail. Collect all your waste, including organic waste. Nature is not a dumping ground.
  • Act with prudence. Plan your route well, take everything you need and make sure it is adapted to your physical capacity.
