We leave Cangas del Narcea on the AS-15, following the course of the Narcea River along the valley floor as far as Ventanueva. Here we take the AS-348 road to San Antolín, in Ibias, to enter the Biosphere Reserve and Nature Reserve of Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña and Ibias, the largest in Asturias, with the best preserved forests in the Iberian Peninsula, which serve as a refuge for the last populations of brown bears and Cantabrian capercaillies. The park includes the source of the Narcea river, the Muniellos river and the upper headwaters of the Ibias river. Its sparsely populated and rugged terrain preserves in good condition large native forests of beech, oak and birch trees.

After pedalling uphill for 13 km in a section submerged in the woods, and with often steep slopes, we reach the Alto del Connio (1,315 m), where we will enjoy impressive views of the Muniellos reserve. The 17 km descent will take place through an authentic autochthonous gallery forest to the Ibias riverbed.

We have already cycled approximately half of the route, so we continue gently uphill parallel to the Ibias riverbed along asphalted tracks with some sections in poorer condition, until we cross it, to begin the climb to Villameirín, where we take the AS-12 towards the Furacón viewpoint, which offers spectacular views. We enter the Natural Park once again. From here we will pass through several hills (ascents to La Tixeira and Collao de Trabao) and valleys until we reach the Ibias valley again, which takes us to Degaña, the end of the route. Here, as well as enjoying nature, you will be able to learn first-hand about the work of the cunqueiros, the local produce and its producers, whose philosophy contributes effectively to environmental, economic and social development in a responsible and sustainable way.
