We leave Castropol along the Paseo del Muelle to the Chapel of San Roque, where we carefully cross the N-640 road and follow the route to A Veiga/Vegadeo along asphalted roads that offer magnificent views over the estuary. Here we cross the Eo and take the N-640 road to San Tirso de Abres, and begin to ascend along the local road that takes us into the heart of Los Oscos, a Biosphere Reserve, where we can enjoy its ethnographic and architectural heritage. The landscape in this area is natural and rugged, with slate as the main feature of the local architecture.
The road takes us to Taramundi, an enclave where we can enjoy the traditional architecture, learn about the art of cutlery, and visit its Bronze Age hillfort, which offers privileged views of the valley. Not to be missed is a visit to the Museum of the Mills of Mazonovo, which is in an excellent state of conservation. We continue the route through autochthonous forests and after about 4 km, after a short detour, we reach the village of Os Teixóis, one of the oldest ethnographic sites in Asturias, where you can see the hydraulic devices such as the mallet, the mill, the grinding wheel, a fulling mill and even a small power station.
We follow the route, a long ascent of about 7 km between forests and very well preserved landscapes, with small villages scattered on the slopes, to arrive after 20 km to Santa Eulalia de Oscos, where the waterworks and forges, slate and forests, make up a unique space. We continue ascending towards San Martín de Oscos, with its slate and masonry church, and from here we begin the descent in search of the river Agüeira.
We cross the river and start to climb up to Pezós/Pesoz, which welcomes us with its Ethnological Museum and the Palace of Ron, and we continue the ascent to finish crossing the imposing valley of the Agüeira until we reach Grandas de Salime, the end of our route and a stop for pilgrims, where we can visit the Collegiate Church of San Salvador and the fabulous ethnographic museum, one of the most important in Asturias.
