The first part of the route begins with the climb to Les Praeres, chosen as the new stage finish for the “Vuelta a España”, which will leave us in awe of the views of the Sierra de Peñamayor.

The climb features some particularly challenging sections, as evidenced by its average gradient of almost 13 per cent, with breathtaking views over the municipality and the surrounding mountains. Most of the road has recently been tarmacked, until, upon reaching a small flat stretch, it turns into a concrete track that takes us up to the wide pass. Once over the top, the descent follows a wide gravel track until it reaches a point where it narrows, the gradient increases, and the gravel becomes more varied; it is advisable to take care. We descend to the bottom of the valley, and before reaching the river we turn sharply left to head up the hillside towards Areñes and, from there, descend along the road to L’Infiestu.

From L’Infiestu, we’ll follow the route along the Camino de Covadonga, passing through Villamayor and Sebares, always on local roads and very quiet tracks, occasionally crossing the River Piloña and passing through a mix of pastures and wooded areas until we reach the River Sella, leading us to Cangues d’Onís/Cangas de Onís, where the Roman bridge awaits us.

As an alternative, the route ends in Arriondas/Les Arriondes, as it has a railway station, allowing us to return to the starting point in Nava.

Alternatively, you can finish the walk in Arriondas/Les Arriondes and take the train back to the starting point in Nava
