We set off from the town of Colunga, noted for its old chapels, palatial houses and modernist mansions. The journey takes us along the N-632 to quickly join the AS-260, which we will not leave for the rest of the route.

We continue on to Gobiendes, where the El Sueve Interpretation Centre is located in its old schools. Here we can obtain the information we need to prepare our excursion, and there is also the possibility of renting bicycles. A little more than 100 m away is the church of Santiago de Gobiendes, an outstanding example of the last years of Asturian pre-Romanesque architecture.

We continue ascending slightly, approaching the northern slope of the massif, where we can see some scars of old fluorite mines, to begin the first hard ramps of the ascent to the Alto del Fitu. As we gain height, the views of the landscape become more majestic, and we can see a large part of the coastal strip with its beaches, weather permitting. Once we reach the summit, at the Mirador del Fitu viewpoint, we can enjoy the well-deserved views of the Picos de Europa.

All that remains is a pleasant descent along the winding mountain road to Arriondas/Les Arriondes, the capital of Parres, whose name is inescapably associated with the International Descent of the Sella.

Respect the direction of traffic on urban stretches.
