We leave Trubia via the AS-228 towards La Riera, where we turn right onto the AS-313 towards the parish of Sama, in Grado. Before reaching Sama, we take the local AS-313 road on the right towards La Calea, and continue along it to Reconco, where, at the junction, we turn left onto the GR-2, which will take us to Yernes.
Up to this point, the climb is very manageable, winding through hills and valley floors amongst meadows until a few kilometres before Llauréu, where the road begins to climb steeply, winding for almost 3 km, and then, gentler and halfway up the slope, leads us to Yernes.
In Yernes, we begin the 4 km climb to the Collado de Fancuaya (1086 m), which is tough but short. From here, we continue to Cuevallagar, a short 2 km stretch with some lovely views. This section is highly dependent on the time of year and rainfall in the area, as it is a cross-country track; after a spell of rain, it can turn into a muddy mess that is impassable in places, forcing us to carry our bikes.
We continue along the route, with a spectacular descent and views of legendary mountain passes such as La Cobertoria. The descent takes us to Banduxu, one of the prettiest villages in Asturias. It is a small hamlet designated a Site of Cultural Interest, with perfectly preserved medieval architecture.
After exploring its narrow streets, we continue on to Proaza, where we cycle along the Senda del Oso trail until we reach the end of our route in Trubia.
It can also be accessed from Les Caldes and Oviedo/Uviéu
Part of the return route follows La Senda del Oso
